Gretta Walters to Speak for YAWP About Climate Change, Outer Space and Human Rights Opportunities for Arbitration Lawyers

May 2021 – On Tuesday, May 25th, Gretta Walters will participate in a panel discussion hosted by Young ArbitralWomen Practitioners (“YAWP”) titled, “New Opportunities for Arbitration Lawyers: Climate Change, Outer Space and Human Rights.” Gretta and her co-panelists, Krystle Baptista Serna (Independent Arbitrator) and Laura Yvonne Zielinski (Holland & Knight LLP), will address how international arbitration is becoming increasingly relevant as a means for dispute resolution in issues relating to climate change, outer space and human rights.

James Hosking and Gretta Walters to Speak About the ICDR’s Revised Rules

May 2021 – On Wednesday, May 26th, James Hosking and Gretta Walters will participate in a panel discussion titled, “The ICDR’s Revised International Arbitration Rules – Inspirations, Interpretations and Insights.” Gretta will moderate the discussion between James, Martin Gusy and the ICDR’s Luis Martinez. The panelists will provide arbitrator, counsel and institutional perspectives on the latest iteration of the ICDR Rules, analyzing what changed, what remained the same, and how the changes compare to other rules. Gretta Walters a Panelist at 16th Annual ICDR Y&I Coffee House Debate

March 2021 — The 16th Annual ICDR Y&I Coffee House Debate is taking place virtually on Sunday, March 28th from 9am to 10:30am EDT.  Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters will serve as one of six panelists who will debate the following topics, taking positions which do not necessarily reflect their personal views:

Gretta Walters to Speak About Online Proceedings in a Virtual World

March 2021 – On Thursday, March 11th, Gretta Walters will participate in a one-on-one discussion with Rekha Rangachri, Executive Director of New York International Arbitration Center (NYIAC) about “How to Prepare for Online Proceedings in a Virtual World.” During the discussion, Gretta will provide insights into preparing for and participating in a virtual hearing, including by addressing considerations necessary to deal with technological issues, present witnesses and exhibits, negotiate a procedural protocol, comply with relevant arbitral rules and work effectively with team members.

CLE Credit for the program is approved in accordance with the requirements of the New York State and New Jersey State CLE Boards for a maximum of one (1) skills credit. Rainbow Willard Re-elected as Secretary to the Board of NYIAC

January 2021 – Earlier this month, Rainbow Willard was re-elected as Secretary to the Board for the New York International Arbitration Center (NYIAC). This marks the second full year that Rainbow will serve in the role.  Chaffetz Lindsey has maintained an active relationship with NYIAC since the organization’s founding in 2013. Just in the past few years, Rainbow and Gretta Walters led a discussion about diversity during NYIAC’s inaugural New York Arbitration Week, Aníbal Sabater and NYIAC co-hosted a 3-episode podcast series about international arbitration in Latin America and the firm sponsored the 2020 New York Arbitration Week, where Caline Mouawad led two panel discussions about diversity in arbitration and a mock U.S. Supreme Court argument about section 1782. Additionally, Aníbal Sabater currently serves on NYIAC’s Board as a Director and is a Member of the Nominating Committee.  Aníbal previously served on NYIAC’s Executive Committee.

James Hosking and Gretta Walters to Speak at the Virtual ICDR America’s Conference 2020

November 2020 – James Hosking and Gretta Walters are speaking at the upcoming ICDR America’s Conference taking place virtually on December 1st and 2nd. The two-day conference comprises of two, one hour sessions per day, and includes small group discussions surrounding the changing practice of international arbitration and mediation, particularly given the COVID-19 pandemic, ICDR rule changes and current developments throughout the Americas.

On Tuesday, December 1st at 12:15pm EST, Gretta will serve as a moderator of the ICDR Y&I sponsored Tertulia Sessions, which involve virtual roundtable discussions about the anticipated 2021 ICDR rule changes including mediation, arbitral jurisdiction, arbitral tribunal secretaries, early disposition, cybersecurity, electronic signatures, publication of awards, and more. Gretta is an Executive Board Member of ICDR Y&I.

Chaffetz Lindsey Speaker Events at the 2020 IBA Annual Conference

November 2020 – Chaffetz Lindsey partners, Caline Mouawad and James Hosking, are speaking at the International Bar Association’s Annual Conference, which is being held virtually from November 2nd – 27th.

On Tuesday, November 17th at 5:00am EST, Caline Mouawad will speak on a panel about “Hot Topics in International Arbitration.” Panelists will debate the most topical issues of the moment in international arbitration. IBA conference attendees can learn more here.

On Monday, November 23rd at 7:00am EST, James Hosking will participate in a panel discussion about “Emergency Arbitration: Taking Stock and Exploring Opportunities for Change.” Panelists will survey the emergency arbitrator rules now provided for by many of the major institutions and identify decisions applying those rules and make proposals for improvement as informed by the experience to date. November 2020 – On Tuesday, November 10th, James Hosking and Gretta Walters will participate in a panel discussion hosted by ICDR Young and International (Y&I) titled “Joinder of Parties and Virtual Hearings: When, Why and How?” The event features two panel discussions on joinder of parties and virtual hearings. James is a panelist, and Gretta a moderator for the discussion on virtual hearings. The panel will discuss the authority of arbitral tribunals to proceed with a virtual hearing when not all the parties are in agreement, when this authority should be exercised, and the logistics and procedural mechanism that should be employed.
