Matt Burke represents corporate clients in state and federal courts and before arbitration tribunals. His practice includes representing sophisticated businesses in contract and business tort cases, regulatory challenges, and insurance coverage litigation. He is an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School where he teaches a course on international issues in U.S. civil litigation.

Matt received his Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School, where he was a James Kent Scholar and where he served as a Managing Editor on the Columbia Law Review. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Boston College.

Representative Matters

  • Representing mining project in litigation arising out of a royalty agreement.
  • Representing wind-turbine manufacturer in litigation relating to alleged product defects at a wind farm.
  • Representing insurers in complex coverage disputes in state and federal courts.
  • Representing steel companies against the federal government challenging the administration of Section 232 tariffs.
  • Obtained first order in favor of steel company finding that the Department of Commerce’s denial of exclusions from Section 232 steel tariffs violated the Administrative Procedures Act.
  • Obtained settlement for steel company for refund of over $100 million in Section 232 steel tariffs.
  • Obtained favorable settlement for a private-equity firm in a New York-seated ICDR arbitration concerning breaches of contract and tort claims in relation to a loan agreement.
  • Secured favorable award for a wind-turbine manufacturer in an ICDR arbitration concerning the maintenance of turbines in a wind farm.
  • Represented a United States corporation defending applications for discovery in assistance to a foreign action.*
  • Represented a global energy company in lawsuits in federal courts involving liability for environmental harms.*
  • Represented a private investment firm in lawsuit involving fraud claims.*
