Lilian Marques is a dual-trained attorney representing clients in litigation as well as international and domestic arbitration on issues of common and civil law.


Lilian Marques has interdisciplinary experience from her five years of practice in complex commercial disputes, including restructuring and bankruptcy cases ranging from companies in the oil and gas, construction, retail, and services industries to financial institutions and insurance companies.

Prior to joining Chaffetz Lindsey in 2019, Lilian received her LL.M. from New York University School of Law (“NYU”), where she was vice-president of the Brazilian Legal Society and research assistant to Hon. Judge Arthur J. Gonzalez.

From 2017 to 2018, Lilian worked at The International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (“CPR”), New York, in arbitration and mediation-related initiatives. In São Paulo, she worked as an associate in a law firm and was the founding partner of a judicial administration (trustee) company.

Representative Matters

  • Representing a Brazilian state-owned energy company in an SCC arbitration against a Chinese construction company regarding construction and engineering defects in a thermoelectric plant.
  • Represented a Brazilian financial institution in bankruptcy court actions brought by a proprietor regarding bank-issued guarantees.*
  • Successfully sustained a request in favor of a Brazilian oil & gas corporate group to recover frozen deposits against one of the major oil & gas players in Brazil.*
  • Represented a Brazilian health insurance corporation under extrajudicial liquidation in mass tort litigation.*
  • Investigated the operation and legal affairs of seven construction companies that filed for restructuring and successfully advised its conversion to liquidation.*
  • Carried out examination of numerous proofs of claims and objections in restructuring proceedings, including a Brazilian retailer case with US$ 33 million in debts.*
