Anibal Sabater Joins Chaffetz Lindsey

Where Advocacy Meets Business

January 2015 – Chaffetz Lindsey is pleased to announce that Aníbal Martín Sabater is joining the firm as a partner from Norton Rose Fulbright where he was a partner in their Houston and New York offices. Aníbal is a recognized international arbitration specialist with over 17 years of experience, representing clients from around the world, and industries as diverse as construction, energy, mining, shipping, technology, and telecommunications, in arbitrations under all major international rules and before leading international arbitrators. He has also acted in several investment arbitration cases, as well as in commercial disputes involving states and state-owned entities. Frequently appointed to act as an arbitrator, Aníbal has sat in over 25 multi-million dollar arbitrations to date.

Aníbal originally trained in Spain and commenced his career at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo in Madrid, before moving to the US in 2003. He is licensed in several US jurisdictions, England and Wales (solicitor), and Spain, and this civil and common law training makes him particularly adept at helping clients resolve cross-border disputes. He is fluent in English and Spanish, and proficient in French and German.

Aníbal is very involved in the international arbitration community and his expertise is recognized by several industry guides, including Global Arbitration Review, Chambers and Legal 500. He is the program committee chair of the New York International Arbitration Center, a member of the Executive Committee of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, and a vice President of the American Branch of the International Law Association. He was also a member of the committee that drafted the recently enacted ICDR Expedited Arbitration Rules.

Aníbal’s recruitment reflects Chaffetz Lindsey’s ongoing commitment to building one of the world’s deepest and most diverse international arbitration teams. Across our core team are lawyers who, in addition to being US-qualified, have trained in both civil and common law systems, have practiced in Europe, Latin America or in Asia-Pacific, and are fluent in several languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian and Korean. Aníbal’s recruitment follows Yasmine Lahlou’s promotion to partner, partner Steven Reisberg’s recruitment, and a number of important associate hires in 2014.
