Alex has significant experience with reinsurance disputes, insurance coverage issues, and cross-border litigation. He also has litigated complex commercial disputes involving claims arising out of fraud, breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, and breach of fiduciary duties. He represents corporate clients in state and federal courts and in arbitration proceedings.

Before joining Chaffetz Lindsey, Alex clerked at the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Representative Matters

  • Defending claim for breach of a reinsurance contract in which the plaintiff seeks over $100 million in damages.
  • Representing foreign client, a financial markets intermediary, in U.S. litigation arising out of the Madoff fraud.
  • Advising insurers on complex coverage disputes.
  • Successfully represented client in dispute regarding whether its English reinsurer must follow the client’s settlement with its insured on an “all sums” basis.
  • Secured at summary judgment dismissal of counterclaims for fraud arising out of the sale of the clients’ business.
  • Counseled foreign client regarding its right to purchase its counterparty’s share in a joint venture based on the counterparty’s breach of contract.
  • Counseled client located in Southeast Asia about litigation options and strategies for a dispute arising in the Middle East.
