Eric specializes in complex, cross-border cases and international commercial and investor-State arbitration.  He has experience at every phase of the dispute resolution process and has handled disputes across industries, including financial services, aviation, manufacturing, insurance, technology & IP, and telecommunications.  He has represented clients under all major arbitral rules including UNCITRAL, ICSID, ICC, LCIA, JAMS, and AAA-ICDR.

Eric also has experience as counsel in several commercial mediations and trained as a mediator at the Singapore International Mediation Centre.

Experience

Prior to joining Chaffetz Lindsey, Eric was Senior Counsel for Europe at the U.S. Department of Commerce where he led commercial legal reforms in Ukraine and the Balkans.  He previously also led the agency’s bilateral work with Uzbekistan and Pakistan.

Before his federal service, Eric was an associate in the international arbitration group at White & Case LLP where he advised corporate and sovereign clients in international commercial and investor-State arbitrations.

Representative Matters

  • Represented the Republic of Korea in an investor-State arbitration under the UNCITRAL Rules administered by the PCA against foreign capital market investors alleging governmental bribery scheme with a favorable outcome on quantum.*
  • Represented the Republic of Korea in an investor-State arbitration under the UNCITRAL Rules administered by the PCA against investors in private company equity and bonds alleging lack of diligence by public securities regulator.*
  • Represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in an ICSID arbitration against a foreign telecommunications investor alleging interference with spectrum license and eventual liquidation of the local entity.*
  • Represented specialty insurance group in ad hoc LCIA arbitration against coverage against losses following an attack by a terrorist group on oil field investment in the Middle East.*
  • Represented specialty insurance group against coverage for losses from long-term bioaccumulation of fluorine-based chemicals.*
  • Represented pharmaceutical company in a vaccine manufacturing dispute under JAMS Arbitration Rules and in JAMS mediation leading to successful settlement.*
  • Represented a group of aircraft leasing companies in three related arbitrations under the AAA-ICDR and LCIA rules against a foreign lessor for failure to timely pay rent on aircraft and engine leases.*
  • Represented pharmaceutical research foundation against manufacturer in breach of drug production requirements and IP license with a successful settlement.*
