Chaffetz Lindsey Sponsors Columbia Arbitration Day

Where Advocacy Meets Business

March 2011 – Chaffetz Lindsey co-sponsored the second Columbia Arbitration Day, which was held on March 25, 2011 at Columbia School of Law. The conference focused on “Complex Arbitrations” and featured prominent practitioners, academics and judges from the U.S., Latin America, and Europe.

The conference addressed the legal and practical challenges in arbitrations involving multiple parties, multiple contracts and parallel proceedings. Four panels addressed such issues as appointment of repeat arbitrators and conflicts of interests; res judicata, lis pendens and forum non conveniens in parallel proceedings; the respective roles of the arbitral institutions, national courts and arbitral tribunals in managing complex arbitration; and the challenges arising from enforcing or vacating awards in complex arbitrations.
