Marcel Cardoso Speaks on Global Legal Careers at ABA International Law Section Panel

Where Advocacy Meets Business

October 2025 — Chaffetz Lindsey’s Marcel Engholm was a featured panelist at the American Bar Association (ABA) International Law Section’s International Legal Education and Specialist Certification Committee meeting on Thursday, October 16th.

The virtual program, titled “From International Student to U.S. Practitioner: Journeys, Challenges, and Successes,” brought together lawyers who began their legal education outside the United States and have built successful careers in the U.S. legal market. Panelists shared personal experiences, practical insights, and advice for navigating the transition from international student to practicing attorney.

The discussion explored key moments in each speaker’s journey, including pursuing advanced legal studies, obtaining U.S. licensure, and developing cross-border practices.

Marcel earned his LL.B. from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, a Master’s Degree from Universidade de São Paulo, and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law. The panel was hosted by the Committee’s co-chairs, Carole Silver and Ryan Reetz, and formed part of the ABA International Law Section’s ongoing efforts to support global practitioners and foster diverse perspectives within the international legal community.
