The U.S. and French Approaches to Client-Attorney Privilege

May 2013 – Chaffetz Lindsey Counsel Yasmine Lahlou recently participated in a joint New York City and Paris Bar event in New York, which brought together members of the profession from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss common legal challenges. Yasmine participated in a panel discussion on client-attorney privilege, or secret professionnel, which addressed the different protections that exist in the U.S. and France, and strategies for dealing with these differences when working in global organizations. Madame Christiane Feral-Schuhl, the Head of the Paris Bar, and only the second woman to be elected at that position, was a keynote speaker at the event.

Yasmine is a U.S., French and Moroccan citizen. She received a Maîtrise en Droit from Paris X – Nanterre University and attended a graduate program at the University of Texas at Austin Law School. She previously practiced in Paris for over four years at Castaldi Mourre & Partners, before joining Clifford Chance and then Chaffetz Lindsey in New York.
