Gretta Walters Spoke at IBA Arbitration Committee Webinar on Arbitral Award Enforcement Issues

July 2026 – Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters spoke on a panel for a webinar series hosted by the IBA Arbitration Committee (Recognition and Enforcement of Arbitral Awards Subcommittee), supported by the IBA Asset Recovery Committee, on “Emerging Developments in the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards.” Gretta’s panel, “Episode 2: Recognition and Enforcement of Annulled Awards: A Comparative Approach Across Jurisdictions and Strategic Considerations,” took place on July 13, 2026.

The session examined emerging trends in the recognition and enforcement of awards annulled at the seat of arbitration. The panel covered:

  • The legal framework for recognition and enforcement of annulled awards
  • Different approaches in the treatment of annulled awards (full deference, no deference, and intermediate approach)
  • Case law analysis from key jurisdictions
  • Practical strategies for enforcing annulled awards

Gretta was joined by fellow panelists Rufus Abeln (Lemstra Van der Korst), Benoit Mauron (LALIVE), and Florencia Villaggi (Burford Capital). The session was moderated by Sophie Goldman (Hanotiau Tossens Goldman).

This webinar was the second installment of a four-part series on emerging trends in the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. Episode 1, on corruption allegations at the enforcement and set-aside stages, was held on June 18, 2026.  The four-part series is coordinated by the Recognition and Enforcement of Arbitral Awards Subcommittee, which is co-chaired by Emilio Bettoni (ArbLit) and Okar Demirkan (Kolcuoglu Demirkan Kocakli).
