October 2026 – Chaffetz Lindsey’s Matilde Flores will be a featured speaker at the IBA Arb40 Symposium – “Raising the bar: designing accountability for the next generation of international arbitration”, presented by the Arb40 Subcommittee of the IBA Arbitration Committee on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark. The symposium brings together young practitioners to engage in an interactive discussion on developing best practices in international arbitration.
Matilde will participate in the session “Discipline and time limits in international arbitration,” an Oxford Union-style debate examining two motions: whether leading arbitral institutions should establish a shared cross-institutional disciplinary mechanism for arbitrators, and whether arbitral institutions should impose mandatory, enforceable time limits for rendering final awards. The discussion will consider issues including arbitrator accountability, conflicts and ethical standards, delays in rendering awards, due process, and the potential impact of binding deadlines on the quality of arbitral decision-making.
Matilde will be joined by Sophie Bayrou (Clyde & Co), Munia El Harti Alonso (MEHA Law), and Anika Havaldar (Freshfields), with Sérgio Nascimento (Bermudes Advogados) moderating. The session will take place from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m.
