Managing the Risks of Transatlantic Trade and Disputes

June 2013 – Partner Andy Frischknecht recently participated in the bi-annual conference jointly organized by the ABA Section of International Law and the International Section of the German Bar Association, which focused on how to navigate the risks and challenges associated with transatlantic deals and disputes. Andy’s panel considered the issue of personal jurisdiction and the ways that foreign companies can minimize their exposure to litigation in the United States. Andy’s analysis included a review of two recent United States Supreme Court opinions (and the Court’s grant of review in a third such case) that have focused on issues of personal jurisdiction.

Andy was part of the original team that established Chaffetz Lindsey in May 2009 and was promoted to partner in December 2012. He is a dual American and Swiss citizen and is fluent in English and German. Chaffetz Lindsey Promotes New Partner and Counsel

January 2013 – Chaffetz Lindsey is delighted to announce the promotion of Andreas Frischknecht to Partner and Jennifer Gorskie to Counsel.

Andy Frischknecht has been with Chaffetz Lindsey since its founding in May 2009. He has over ten years of experience, having represented corporates, sovereigns and individuals in the state and federal courts in New York and elsewhere, and in arbitrations under the ICC, SIAC and NAI Rules. A dual Swiss-American citizen, he is fluent in English and German, and regularly represents Swiss and other European clients. Andy was previously with Clifford Chance and Hughes Hubbard & Reed, and obtained his LL.M. degree from New York University Law School in 2002 and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Bern, Switzerland, Faculty of Law in 1998.

Jennifer Gorskie joined the firm in early 2011 from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, deepening the firm’s capability in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration and in disputes involving Latin America. She has extensive experience representing sovereigns and companies based in and investing in the region, and is fluent in Spanish. She has appeared as an advocate in ICC, LCIA and ICSID arbitrations. Jennifer clerked for the Honorable Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum of the Southern District of New York. She graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard International Law Journal. Jennifer sits on the International Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association and is the Interim Treasurer of the recently formed New York International Arbitration Center.

Andy Frischknecht Joins Panel on Developments in Cross-Border Dispute Resolution

September 2012 – Chaffetz Lindsey Counsel, Andy Frischknecht, joined a panel chaired by Lord Justice Toulson on “Long arms and sharp elbows: recent developments in international commercial dispute resolution” in London on September 27, 2012. The panel organized by 4 New Square Chambers looked at the future of international commercial dispute resolution and those jurisdictions that are well positioned as forums for resolving cross-border disputes and why.

Andy considered recent New York precedent that has significantly expanded the extra-territorial reach of New York’s pre and post judgment enforcement statutes, with potentially far-reaching implications for parties with assets abroad.

Andy has been with Chaffetz Lindsey since its founding in May 2009. A dual Swiss-American citizen, Andy worked as an Associate in the New York office of Clifford Chance for over three years, and was with Hughes Hubbard Reed for over three years prior to that. Andy has considerable experience representing clients before courts and arbitral forums in a variety of international disputes, and works closely with several clients based in Europe.
