June 2024– Chaffetz Lindsey’s Aníbal Sabater will be a featured panelist at the III Comillas Arbitration Day, taking place on June 4th at Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid. This year’s conference, titled “Seguridad esencial y arbitraje en Latinoamérica”, will explore the intersection of essential security considerations and arbitration in the Latin American context. The event will gather leading practitioners, academics, and institutional representatives to discuss current challenges and developments in Latin American arbitration, with a focus on how essential security considerations impact arbitral proceedings.

Aníbal Sabater to Speak on Arbitrator Ethics at CIArb Learning Lab Series

May 2025– Chaffetz Lindsey’s Aníbal Sabater will speak in the session titled “The Ethical Arbitrator: Conflict Conundrums and Tricky Challenges” as part of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ Learning Lab: Arbitrator Skills Development series. The session will be held online on Thursday, May 15th and is part of a six-part professional development program aimed at enhancing the practical skills of arbitration professionals.

Now in its third edition, the Learning Lab series offers interactive workshops designed to help both experienced arbitrators and those preparing to accept appointments sharpen their case management skills and tackle complex procedural and ethical issues with confidence.

Participants in the series will work through real-world scenarios and small-group exercises focused on key aspects of arbitral proceedings, including:

  • Managing conflicts of interest and arbitrator challenges
  • Making appropriate disclosures and handling interview requests

Anibal Sabater Hosts NYIAC Talks Podcast Spotlight on International Arbitration in Latin America: Mexico (Part II)

March 2025–  Chaffetz Lindsey’s Anibal Sabater will host an upcoming NYIAC Talks podcast “International Arbitration in Latin America: Mexico” with Noiana Marigo (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer) on Thursday, March 13th.

Anibal and Noiana will interview Cecilia Azar (Galicia Abogados) with special guest Dr. Antonio Ortiz-Mena (AOM Advisors) for the second episode of the podcast series, continuing the discussion from January 31st, 2025 on recent developments in Mexico.

Anibal Sabater Joins California Arbitration Week Panel on Artificial Intelligence

February 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Anibal Sabater will speak on the panel “Who, What, Where, When and Why to Disclose Artificial Intelligence” during California International Arbitration Week on Tuesday, March 11th in Los Angeles, California.

Anibal will join Svetlana Gitman (AAA- ICDR), Benjamin Malek (T.H.E. Chambers, SVAMC, SVAMC AI Task Force), and Sarah Reynolds (Arbitrator and Mediator) to discuss how practitioners are using A.I. and consider what uses are benign, what uses are improper; and what uses should be disclosed. The group will examine the 2024 SVAMC A.I. Guidelines on the Use of A.I. in Arbitration and guidelines issued by various administering institutions as well as the courts to consider when, how and why disclosures on A.I. should or shouldn’t be made. Jonathan W. Fitch (JAMS) will moderate the discussion.

Aníbal Sabater and Silvia Marroquin to attend 68th Congress of the UIA in Paris

October 2024—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Aníbal Sabater and Silvia Marroquin are set to attend the 68th Congress of the UIA in Paris from October 30th to November 3rd.

As part of their involvement in the Commission on the Future of the Lawyer, Aníbal and Silvia will be organizing the session “Challenges Facing the Legal Profession” to take place on November 2nd. The session will discuss the most pressing challenges faced by the legal profession across geographic regions and fields of practice (e.g., political interference, disregard of the rule of law, economic trends, technological competence), as well as trends and best practices to address those challenges.  Aníbal is President of the Commission on the Future of the Lawyer and Silvia serves as the secretary of the commission.
