Anibal Sabater to Speak on New York Arbitration Week Panel

November 2025 – Chaffetz Lindsey’s Aníbal Sabater will participate on an upcoming New York Arbitration Week panel organized by WilmerHale, taking place Tuesday, November 18th.

Aníbal will join the panel “Is New York as a seat and governing law still a top choice for Latin American commercial arbitration?” which will explore the shifting landscape of arbitration choices for Latin American parties. The discussion will address:

  • New York’s historical role as a leading arbitral seat for disputes originating in Latin America
  • The growing competition from other US arbitration seats and seats in Latin America
  • The current choices Latin American parties are making regarding arbitration seat and governing law
  • How New York compares to its competitors in terms of these decisions

The session will be moderated by Claudio Salas (WilmerHale) and will feature fellow panelists Jessika Rocha (Von Wobeser y Sierra), Claudia Benevides (Benevides Mejía), and Rafael Gagliardi (Xavier Gagliardi Inglez Schaffer).

James Hosking to Speak at Roma Tre and UNIDROIT Events

November 2025 — Chaffetz Lindsey’s James Hosking will play a prominent role in two gatherings of international lawyers in Rome this month.

Roma Tre–UNIDROIT Centre Annual Conference

On November 13, James will speak at the Annual Conference organized by the Roma Tre–UNIDROIT Centre for Transnational Commercial Law and International Arbitration. The conference, titled “The Governance of Risk in a Risk Society – Perspectives from Private, Public and International Law,” will take place at the Banca d’Italia Carlo Azeglio Ciampi Conference Center, and will bring together policy makers, academics and practitioners to discuss how emerging regulatory and geopolitical risks impact transnational law and cross-border dispute resolution.

James will speak on the panel “Risk, Causation, And Damages In International Disputes” with Ulrich Schroeter (Professor of Private Law at University of Basel) and Alexis Mourre (MCL Arbitration and Professor of Law at Sciences Po Law School). Giacomo Rojas Elgueta (Co-Director of the Centre, Professor of Private Law at Roma Tre University School of Law) will moderate the discussion.

Roma Tre Certificate in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration

Later in the same week in Rome, James will also present at the market-leading Roma Tre Certificate in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration. Now in its 12th year, James and fellow partner Yasmine Lahlou have taught at the Certificate since its inception. James will deliver the lecture titled “The gathering of evidence in international arbitration: expert reports, fact witnesses, disclosure of evidence”.

The Certificate will also be attended by Mariam Jikia recipient of the CL-Young ICCA scholarship. The scholarship covers the full registration fee for the Certificate and contributes to travel expenses, encouraging participation of applicants from countries underrepresented in this unique and intensive international arbitration training program.

Marcel Cardoso Speaks on Global Legal Careers at ABA International Law Section Panel

October 2025 — Chaffetz Lindsey’s Marcel Engholm was a featured panelist at the American Bar Association (ABA) International Law Section’s International Legal Education and Specialist Certification Committee meeting on Thursday, October 16th.

The virtual program, titled “From International Student to U.S. Practitioner: Journeys, Challenges, and Successes,” brought together lawyers who began their legal education outside the United States and have built successful careers in the U.S. legal market. Panelists shared personal experiences, practical insights, and advice for navigating the transition from international student to practicing attorney.

The discussion explored key moments in each speaker’s journey, including pursuing advanced legal studies, obtaining U.S. licensure, and developing cross-border practices.

Marcel earned his LL.B. from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, a Master’s Degree from Universidade de São Paulo, and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law. The panel was hosted by the Committee’s co-chairs, Carole Silver and Ryan Reetz, and formed part of the ABA International Law Section’s ongoing efforts to support global practitioners and foster diverse perspectives within the international legal community.

Aníbal Sabater to Speak on Advanced Oral Advocacy Techniques at CeCAP Seminar in Panama

October 2025 — Chaffetz Lindsey’s Aníbal Sabater will participate as a panelist at the upcoming Seminario de Actualización en Arbitraje Nacional e Internacional, organized by the Centro de Conciliación y Arbitraje de Panamá (CeCAP). The event will take place October 22nd-October 23rd in Panama.

Aníbal will join the panel “Técnicas Avanzadas de Litigación Oral en Arbitraje,” which will explore strategies for enhancing advocacy and case presentation in arbitration proceedings. The discussion will address:

  1. Crafting a memorable and strategic case structure aligned with case theory
  2. Effective direct examination techniques to establish credibility and coherence
  3. Managing expert witnesses, including cross-preparation, “hot tubbing,” and challenging assumptions
  4. Utilizing audiovisual tools and technology such as timelines, maps, and dynamic evidence

The session will be moderated by Diego Maximin (Pinto & Villarreal) and will feature fellow panelists Daniel Ávila (Reed Smith), Eric Britton (Britton & Iglesias), and Jorge Molina Mendoza (Fábrega Molino).

The CeCAP seminar will bring together leading arbitration practitioners and academics from across Latin America to discuss evolving practices in national and international arbitration. This year’s edition will emphasize interactive and practical exchanges between panelists, encouraging dynamic dialogue and collaboration.

 

Marcel Engholm Speaks on NYU Law International Arbitration Panel

October 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Marcel Engholm will participate in NYU Law’s International Arbitration Practitioner Panel hosted by the NYU Latin America Arbitration Society and the International Arbitration Association on Tuesday, October 21st.

The group will discuss how they got involved in international arbitration, how New York compares to other global hubs, the biggest misconceptions students have about arbitration work, and more.

Marcel will join Sam Dougherty (Hogan Lovells), Christian Vandergeest (Freshfields), and Ank Santens (White & Case) for the discussion.

Andy Frischknecht Spoke at 14th Annual AtlAS Conference in Atlanta

October 2025 — Chaffetz Lindsey’s Andy Frischknecht spoke at the 14th Annual AtlAS Conference, organized by the Atlanta International Arbitration Society (AtlAS), on October 2nd in Atlanta, Georgia.

The conference brought together arbitration practitioners, academics, and in-house counsel based in Atlanta, across the United States and beyond, including Canada and Europe.

Andy contributed insights from his extensive experience in enforcement and sovereign dispute matters on the panel “From Decision to Collection: Enforcement Strategies and Obstacles in International Arbitration”.

The panel, featuring Lea Haber Kuck (Independent Arbitrator), James Boykin (Hughes Hubbard & Reed) offered practical perspectives on navigating complex cross-border arbitration proceedings. Christopher Smith (Smith, Gambrell & Russell) moderated the conversation.

Yasmine Lahlou to Speak on Arbitration and Anti-Suit Injunctions at IBA Milan 2025

October 2025 — Chaffetz Lindsey’s Yasmine Lahlou will serve as a panelist at the 5th IBA Litigation Committee Conference on Private International Law, to be held October 2–3, 2025 in Milan.

Her session, “Arbitration and Anti-Suit Injunctions After UniCredit — A New Frontier?”, will explore the evolving landscape of anti-suit and anti-enforcement injunctions in arbitration following UniCredit Bank GmbH v RusChemAlliance LLC. The panel will take a comparative approach across jurisdictions, including:

  • Developments in England, notably changes under the Arbitration Act 2025
  • Responses in the EU, such as “anti-anti-suit injunctions” and their operation under the Brussels Ia Regulation
  • Case law from Asia and the U.S., including nuances involving third-party affiliates and enforcement protections

Yasmine Lahlou Spoke on Dual Roles & Arbitrator Integrity at 24th CBAr Congresso Internacional de Arbitragem

September 2025 — Chaffetz Lindsey’s Yasmine Lahlou participated in a panel session on “Integrity and Arbitrators” at the 24th Congresso Internacional de Arbitragem, organized by the Brazilian Committee of Arbitration (CBAr).

Yasmine was a featured speaker on Thursday, September 18th, during a discussion that explored critical questions surrounding conflicts of interest, disclosure duties, and the evolving expectations placed on arbitrators.

She presented on “Arbitrators and Dual Roles: Are ‘double hatting’ or ‘revolving door’ practices a legally adequate cause for distrust in arbitrators’ conduct?”—a timely topic addressing concerns about arbitrators who serve in multiple roles across proceedings.

The panel was moderated by José Roberto de Castro Neves and included:
