Alan Lipkin to Speak at Brazilian American Symposium for Corporate and Insolvency Law

May 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Alan Lipkin will join the panel “Bankruptcy and Equalization of the Debtor’s and Creditors’ Interests: What Are the Checks and Balances in the Bankruptcy Systems of the US and Brazil?” for Fordham Law School’s event “Brazilian American Symposium for Corporate and Insolvency Law” taking place May 28th-May 29th in New York City.

Alan will join Justice João Otávio de Noronha and University of São Paulo’s Professor Oreste Laspro for the discussion.

The event aims to create a dialogue between Brazilian and American lawyers, professors, and judges, promoting the exchange of experiences and strengthening transnational collaboration between academies and judiciaries in both countries, with emphasis on changes to Brazilian Law brought by law 14.112/2020 on Transnational Insolvency and Chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy code.

Silvia Marroquin to Speak at ARIAS France 30th Anniversary Event

May 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Silvia Marroquin will participate in ARIAS France’s 30th anniversary event taking place in Paris, France on June 3rd.

Silvia will join the panel “Résoudre Autrement : La Montée en Puissance de la Médiation dans les Litiges d’Assurance & Réassurance” (“Resolving Things Differently: the Rise of Mediation in Insurance & Reinsurance Disputes”) along with Anne Pélissier (Secretary General of the International Insurance Law Association), Frédérique De La Chapelle Arnaud (Partner and Head of Insurance Europe at Dentons), and Arnaud Chneiweiss (Insurance Mediator). Eric Evian (President of ARIAS France) will mediate the discussion.

Chaffetz Lindsey’s Steve Schwartz will also attend the conference.

ARIAS France is an arbitration and mediation center specialized in the resolution of insurance and reinsurance disputes.

Andy Frischknecht to Speak on Cross-Border Asset Recovery at London International Disputes Week

June 2025– Chaffetz Lindsey’s Andy Frischknecht will speak on a panel titled “Show Me the Money: Strategies for Beating Recalcitrant Debtors” in London on Wednesday, June 4th, as part of London International Disputes Week.

The session will address the real-world challenges of enforcing international judgments and arbitral awards in the face of sophisticated asset-concealment tactics. Panelists will explore the legal, commercial, and strategic dimensions of cross-border enforcement, with a particular focus on overcoming jurisdictional limitations, navigating sovereign immunity, and leveraging reputational and non-legal tools available to creditors.

Matilde Flores to Speak at Mexico Arbitration Week 2025 on Practical Effects of Ethics in Arbitration

May 2025– Chaffetz Lindsey’s Matilde Flores will speak on the panel “Practical Effects of Ethics in Arbitration” on Monday, May 26th during Mexico Arbitration Week 2025, taking place in Mexico City. The event is organized in conjunction with the Mexico’s leading arbitration institution, Centro de Arbitraje de México (CAM).

Matilde will be joined by Beatriz Valladolid Briseño (Valladolid Abogados) and Alejandro Garcia González (Hogan Lovells). The group will be moderated by Julio Rivera (Rivera García).

Aníbal Sabater to Speak on Arbitrator Ethics at CIArb Learning Lab Series

May 2025– Chaffetz Lindsey’s Aníbal Sabater will speak in the session titled “The Ethical Arbitrator: Conflict Conundrums and Tricky Challenges” as part of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ Learning Lab: Arbitrator Skills Development series. The session will be held online on Thursday, May 15th and is part of a six-part professional development program aimed at enhancing the practical skills of arbitration professionals.

Now in its third edition, the Learning Lab series offers interactive workshops designed to help both experienced arbitrators and those preparing to accept appointments sharpen their case management skills and tackle complex procedural and ethical issues with confidence.

Aníbal will join a panel of arbitration professionals including:

Participants in the series will work through real-world scenarios and small-group exercises focused on key aspects of arbitral proceedings, including:

  • Managing conflicts of interest and arbitrator challenges

James Hosking Joins Gleiss Lutz International Arbitration Event in Stuttgart, Germany

May 2025– Chaffetz Lindsey’s James Hosking will speak on the panel “International Arbitration in Disruptive Times” hosted by Gleiss Lutz in Stuttgart, Germany on Tuesday, May 6th.

The event will bring together leading arbitration practitioners and in-house counsel from the U.S., Asia, and Europe to discuss how evolving geopolitical and regulatory challenges—ranging from protectionist trade measures to shifting compliance frameworks—are impacting cross-border dispute resolution.

James will join a panel of international experts, including:

Matilde Flores Hosts Panel at American Society of International Law Annual Meeting

April 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Matilde Flores will participate in the American Society of International Law (ASIL)’s Annual Meeting taking place April 16th-April 18th in Washington, D.C.

Matilde will host the panel “Careers in International Law with a Focus on Latin America” on April 17th as part of the Latin America Interest Group’s annual business meeting. The panel will be an informal discussion where each speaker will provide insights into their careers and advice to younger practitioners, with a particular focus on how Latin American lawyers can forge a career path in international law. The panel will also explore how current international law issues impact Latin America. Panelists include Matheus Bastos Oliveira (Freshfields) and Paola Patarroyo (Legal Officer at the UN).

Matilde is on the Annual Meeting Committee and the Co-Chair of the ASIL Latin America Interest Group.

James Hosking and Gretta Walters Join 32nd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna

April 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s James Hosking and Gretta Walters will join the 32nd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria taking place April 11th-April 17th.

James will take part in the 20th Annual ICDR Y&I Coffee House Debate on Sunday, April 13th. James and accompanying panelists Andrea Kaalhus (Mannheimer Swartling), Dr. Fabienne Bretscher (Baker McKenzie), Patricia Snell (Covington & Burling), Franz Schwarz (WilmerHale), and Martin Gusy (Bracewell) will debate the following propositions: i) Multi-step dispute resolution clauses should be strictly enforced; and  ii) All communications between the parties about possible settlements should be treated as confidential. J. Brian Casey (Independent arbitrator) and Patricia Shaughnessy (Stockholm University) will moderate.

The special 20th anniversary edition brings together James and the other two initial co-chairs of ICDR Y&I, Franz and Martin, who first founded the Coffee House debate in 2005. The debate team of “oldies” will be pitted against a team of “rising stars.”  Chaffetz Lindsey has proudly sponsored the event for the last 16 years and partner Gretta Walters has been involved in multiple iterations.

Later that week, Gretta will join the panel “Mastering (cost-) efficiency in complex disputes: summary proceedings, security for costs & multi-party arbitrations” on April 14th with Jake Lowther (SCC Arbitration Institute), Aisha Nadar (Runeland Law), Alicja Zielinska-Eisen (Queritius), and Florian Haugeneder (Knoetzl).  The event will present two recent SCC Reports on these topics, as panelists offer practical insights from the perspectives of counsel and arbitrator practicing across various jurisdictions.

Gretta will also attend as the co-coach of the New York University Law School team and as an arbitrator.

The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot aims to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration for resolution of international business disputes through its application to a concrete problem of a client and to train law leaders of tomorrow in methods of alternative dispute resolution.

April 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s May Khoury will moderate the panel “Bridging the Gap: Streamlining Dispute Resolution for Investment and Trade in the OIC Region” on Friday, April 11th as part of Paris Arbitration Week.

The expert panel, featuring Professor Kamalia Mehtiyeva (University of Paris-Est Créteil), Dr. Umar A. Andy Frischknecht Co-Chairs IBA Annual Litigation Forum Session on AI

April 2025—Together with Lydia Danon of Cooke Young & Keidan, Chaffetz Lindsey’s Andy Frischknecht will co-chair the session on “Digitalization and AI: The Practice” at the upcoming IBA Annual Litigation Forum taking place April 9-11 in Singapore.

In this session, industry leaders and legal tech experts will explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming litigation practice across three distinct levels: supportive, replacement and disruptive technology. By combining insights from academia, hands-on legal practice and technology development, the panelists will offer a range of perspectives on what litigators need to know about the impact of AI.

Caline Mouawad to Speak at Paris Arbitration Week

April 2025—Caline Mouawad will join the Paris Arbitration Week panel “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Experts but Never Dared to Ask” as a guest speaker on Thursday, April 10th.

The panel will explore the increasing pivotal role experts play in arbitration with a focus on the different procedural pitfalls, traps that all stakeholders in the proceedings may face, and best practices in the field. Caline Mouawad Represents New York in Paris Arbitration Week “Battle of the Seats”

April 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Caline Mouawad will join a “Battle of the Seats” between London, Paris, New York, and California during Paris Arbitration Week taking place April 7th– April 11th.

The group will explore the comparative advantages and disadvantages of four of the world’s leading arbitration seats through a lively discussion. Caline, representing New York, will join Laura Abrahamson (Arbitrator) representing California, Kevin Nash (London Court of International Arbitration) representing London, and Alexis Mourre (MCL Arbitration) representing Paris.

Representatives from each jurisdiction will advocate for their seat in a debate-style contest that will feature questions about procedural efficiency, enforceability, and other advantages or disadvantages that each seat may pose, including recent developments in case law and institutional rules. This session will help arbitration practitioners, in-house counsel, and other decision-makers understand the practical implications of selecting these places as their seat, and will pit new against old as the participants have the opportunity to vote for their preferred seat at the end.

The group will be moderated by Giorgio Sassine (Musick, Peeler & Garrett, LLP) and Katie Gonzalez (Cleary Gottlieb).
