Caline Mouawad Joins Panel at 2023 USC-JAMS Arbitration Symposium in Collaboration with SIAC

March 2023— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Caline Mouawad will speak at the upcoming 7th Annual USC-JAMS Arbitration Symposium in Collaboration with SIAC on Thursday, March 16, 2023. Caline will join Linda A. Klein (Baker Donelson), TJ Auner (Jones Day) and Charline Yim (Gibson Dunn) for the panel titled “Subpoena and Third-Party Evidence – the State of Play” taking place at 11:00am PT/1:00pm ET.

The panel will review the current status of the law on the ability to compel third parties to an arbitration to produce evidence. They will also consider the differences between domestic arbitration and international arbitration, recent 9th Circuit and US Supreme Court cases and other relevant case law.

The Symposium, hosted by the Singapore International Arbitration Center, University of Southern California and JAMS, is the keystone event of the 2nd Annual California International Arbitration Week (CIAW).

Alan Lipkin to Speak at 2023 TL4: FIRE Americas Conference

March 2023— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Alan Lipkin will speak at the upcoming Thought Leaders 4: FIRE Americas Conference on Tuesday, March 14th at 1pm. Alan will sit on the panel titled “Bankruptcy & Insolvency Powers” at the two-day conference taking place in Grand Cayman. Anibal Sabater to Speak at the 9th Harvard International Arbitration Conference

February 2023— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Anibal Sabater will speak at the 9th Harvard International Arbitration Conference on Thursday, March 2nd. Anibal will join Isabel Fernández de la Cuesta (King & Spalding) and Richard C. Lorenzo (Hogan Lovells) for the 1:30pm panel “Arbitration in the Context of Energy Transition.” Katie Gonzalez (Cleary Gottlieb) will moderate the discussion.

The conference titled “”International Arbitration: Fostering and Adapting to Change” will feature many of the world’s leading practitioners who will be discussing some of the most relevant issues that practitioners are facing in the field.

Gretta Walters to Speak on Panel at 2023 iLaw Conference

February 2023— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters will join B. Ted Howes, Martin F. Gusy and Eric P. Tuchmann for a panel discussion at the 2023 iLaw Conference on Friday, February 17th. The session titled “Regional Reports on the Current State of Affairs in International Arbitration” will feature a quick-moving discussion covering key legal and practice developments pertaining to the latest global highlights with a focus on international arbitration. The panel will take place at 10am during the AAA-ICDR International Arbitration Track morning sessions.

Hosted by the Florida Bar International Law Section and the American Arbitration Association, iLaw is the International Law Section’s flagship event attended by legal practitioners around the globe providing a full day of programming on issues in international litigation, business transactions and the AAA-ICDR international arbitration track. Luisa Quintao to Moderate CIArb Brazil Discussion about the 2023 Vis Moot Problem

January 2023— Luisa Quintao will moderate a discussion organized CIArb Brazil about the legal issues of this year’s Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Problem.  Dr Crina Baltag, FCIArb and Sophie Nappert will join Luisa at 12pm EST on Thursday, January 26th for the virtual event.

The discussion will take place on the first day of the two-day CIArb Brazil event, focusing on the procedural issues of the Vis Moot Problem, including the topics of arbitration and corruption as well as the stay and bifurcation of arbitration proceedings.

Lidia Rezende to Join Panel at Georgetown Brazilian Arbitration Day

January 2023— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Lidia Rezende will join a panel discussion alongside Fernando Merino, Michelle Grando, Mateus Carreteiro and Mariana Brito on Thursday, January 26th.

The panel titled “The Wave of Investors’ Claims Against Brazilian Publicly Held Companies” will take place from 5:30pm-6:30pm as part of the 2nd Annual Georgetown Brazilian Arbitration Day held at the Steptoe & Johnson LLP headquarters (1330 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, DC).

Georgetown Brazilian Arbitration Day, presented by the Georgetown International Arbitration Society, will host a team of 18 leading practitioners in the space to discuss the latest arbitration developments in Brazil.

Andy Frischknecht to Moderate 2022 New York Arbitration Week Panel

November 2022— Chaffetz Lindsey partner Andy Frischknecht will moderate a session during New York Arbitration Week taking place November 14th-November 18th. The roundtable discussion  “Who’s in Charge? From Different Perspectives in the Hearing Room” will take place on Wednesday, November 16 from 4pm-5:30pm among practitioners who serve as both counsel and arbitrators. This panel will explore the relationship between the arbitral tribunal, the parties and their counsel in a variety of procedural contexts.

Andy Frischknecht to Join NYU/Columbia Conference Panel on “International Arbitration from a US Law Perspective”, Saturday, November 12th

November 2022— Chaffetz Lindsey partner Andy Frischknecht will be speaking at the upcoming “Recent Developments in Arbitration” conference on Saturday, November 12th. The conference will be presented jointly by the Center on Civil Justice and the Center for Transnational Litigation, Arbitration, and Commercial Law at NYU School of Law, together with the Center for International Commercial & Investment Arbitration at Columbia Law School.

Andy will join the third panel of the day to discuss “International Arbitration from a US Law Perspective” alongside Linda Silberman (NYU), Franco Ferrari (NYU) and John Fellas (NYU). The panel will discuss a range of issues in international commercial arbitration where U.S. solutions often invite debate, including jurisdiction and forum non conveniens in connection with proceedings to enforce an award, the criteria for enforcing an annulled award, judicial review of arbitral jurisdiction, and whether § 1782 providing for judicial assistance, including discovery, extends to international commercial arbitration.

Marcel Engholm to Speak at the 2022 ARIAS Fall Conference

November 2022— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Marcel Engholm is set to speak at the 2022 ARIAS Fall Conference on Friday, November 4th.  Marcel will be joined by Michael Carolan (Troutman Pepper),  Stephanie Denker (Saul Ewing), Peter Golfman (Zelle), Shermineh Jones (Troutman Pepper) and Gina Santangelo (Arch Re) during the “Rapid Fire Case Presentations” session Friday morning where young practitioners will be given five minutes to convince the audience they have found the most important case in insurance and reinsurance law. The audience will vote on the most important case presented.

Marcel will be making a case that the Second Circuit’s decision in Fireman’s Fund v. OneBeacon this past September, a victory secured by Chaffetz Lindsey’s Steve Schwartz, is the most important of the year.

Luísa Quintão to Speak at the Brazilian Arbitration Committee’s (CBAr) 21st International Arbitration Conference

September 2022— Luísa Quintão is set to speak in the upcoming Brazilian Arbitration Committee’s (CBAr) 21st International Arbitration Conference, taking place between September 28th-30th in Rio de Janeiro. On the morning of September 29th, Luísa will take part in the breakfast event “The Different Diversities in Practice: Current Initiatives and Challenges in the Arbitration Market.” The event will look to promote debate among different professionals engaged in recent initiatives aimed at promoting gender, race, age and ethnicity diversity in arbitration.

Luísa will be joined by panelists Danilo Brum de Magalhães Júnior, Jorge Cesa Ferreira da Silva and Patrícia Shiguemi Kobayashi. The group will be moderated by Mariana Martins-Costa.

The in-person conference hosting over 700 participants aims to promote debate among professionals about “Arbitration and Corporate Law”. This will be one of the first major arbitration conferences in Brazil to be held in person since 2019.

The panel event held via Zoom from 1:30pm-3:00pm EDT will analyze how to conceptually evaluate country risk, different types of exposures, growing business-related risks and more.

The group moderated by Miguel Nakhle will consist of thought leaders in the space including Olga Ukhaneva, Carlos Pabon-Agudelo, Robert Patton and Miguel Lopez Forastier.
