Yasmine Lahlou Speaks at the 14th ICC New York Conference on International Arbitration

October 2019 – Yasmine Lahlou recently led a discussion on “Protecting legal privileges and commercial confidences” at the 14th ICC New York Conference on International Arbitration. She spoke about issues of privilege and commercial confidence, and how the disparity of regimes makes the outcome uncertain for both counsel and parties. She addressed several key issues, including how to identify and withhold privileged material in practice, how to resist claims of privileges and how to protect commercial confidences, also considering the discretion of the arbitral tribunal on the issue and in the absence of an agreement by the parties. Following the discussion, Yasmine led several case scenarios on the topic.

The annual ICC New York Conference on International Arbitration seeks to create a highly interactive environment and lively debate among arbitrators, legal practitioners, in-house counsel and academics who wish to learn more about developments in international dispute resolution.

 

 

 

Yasmine Lahlou Speaks at University of Roma Tre

September 2019 – Yasmine Lahlou is serving as Faculty Member at the sixth edition of the Certificate in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration in Rome. She is speaking about “Complex privity: extension of arbitration obligations in multiparty transactions.” Yasmine is joined by leading academics, in-house counsel and practitioners who will share theoretical and practical insights about investment and commercial arbitration.

The Certificate Program is hosted by University of Roma Tre, the Associazione Italiana Per L’arbitrato (AIA), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and the Milan Chamber of Arbitration (CAM).

Chaffetz Lindsey’s International Arbitration Team Recognized by Chambers Latin America

Yasmine Lahlou and Rainbow Willard Published in GAR’s “Guide to Mining Arbitrations”

July 2019 – Yasmine Lahlou and Rainbow Willard recently published an article on “The Rise of Environmental Counterclaims in Mining Arbitration” in Global Arbitration Review’s (GAR) The Guide to Mining Arbitrations – First Edition. Their contribution explores the growing trend of state-asserted counterclaims in the context of disputes under investment treaties, and in particular the potential for environmental counterclaims in mining arbitrations.

GAR is the leading resource on international arbitration news and community intelligence. The Guide to Mining Arbitrations is the newest topic to be added to the GAR Guides Series, and it introduces key issues in mining arbitration, substantive principles, and regional perspectives on mining arbitration.

Yasmine Lahlou Speaks on Panel About Diversity in Alternative Dispute Resolution

April 2019 – On Wednesday, April 10th, Yasmine Lahlou participated in a panel discussion on “Constituting the Right Tribunal: Different Voices for Optimal Results” at the ABA Section of International Law 2019 Annual Conference in Washington D.C. The panel focused the elimination of bias in the profession, and explored the advantages of tribunals that include a diverse group of people, including not only women, but also practitioners from different legal traditions, and even different professions.

The discussion is part of the America Bar Association’s effort to diversify Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Yasmine Lahlou Speaks at Third Annual International Arbitration Conference at Penn Law

March 2019 – On Friday, March 22, Yasmine Lahlou participated in a panel discussion at the Third Annual International Arbitration Conference at Penn Law. Yasmine was joined on the panel by Christian Leathley (Herbert Smith Freehills LLP), Karina Goldberg (Ferro, Castro Neves, Daltro & Gomide Advogados), Jeremy Heep (Pepper Hamilton LLP), and moderator Professor Adam Raviv (Penn Law Faculty and Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr LLP) to discuss  “Transparency: How much is enough and how can we achieve it?”
