July 2019 – IASC/ICDR Y&I event on “Hot topics in International Arbitration” that will be held on July 3, 2019, starting at 6:30pm, at Allen & Overy’s Madrid office. Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters will join other panelists to discuss topics such as confidentiality vs. transparency in international arbitration; due process vs. efficiency; artificial intelligence and “machine arbitration”; IBA rules vs. Praga Rules; arbitral secretaries; third-party funders: how much should we disclose?; the role of technology in international arbitration; diversity; and more.

James Hosking & Gretta Walters Speak on ICDR’s IA Rules Since the 2014 Amendments

June 2019 – James Hosking and Gretta Walters will be speaking at an upcoming panel discussion on the ICDR’s International Arbitration Rules, focused on practical experience with the Rules since they were substantially amended in 2014.  The panel will draw on institutional insights as well as contributions from Martin Gusy and James Hosking, co-authors of the newly-released Second Edition of “A Guide to The ICDR International Arbitration Rules,” and a look to the future with Y&I Global Advisory Board member Gretta Walters.  Attendees can also purchase a copy of the book at a discount.

Gretta Walters to Speak on Panel Regarding Developments in Swedish Arbitration in Stockholm

May 2019 – On Monday, May 20th, Gretta Walters will speak at the Swedish Arbitration Association (SAA) and the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) Half Day Conference in Stockholm. Gretta will serve on a panel to discuss “Developments in Swedish arbitration: Court procedures, SCC rules and practice.” The half day conference will focus on recent key revisions modernizing the Swedish Arbitration Act, and recently revised SCC Rules and new court procedures.

The SAA is an organization for lawyers worldwide engaged in arbitration that seeks to promote the interest and knowledge of arbitration as a dispute resolution method, Swedish and international arbitration law and Sweden as an international arbitration venue. The SCC is one of the world’s leading forums for dispute resolution.

Gretta Walters Wins the ICAL Alumni Association’s 2019 Outstanding Alumna Award

May 2019 – Gretta Walters recently received the 2019 Outstanding International Commercial Arbitration Law (ICAL) Alumna Award from her LL.M. program at Stockholm University. The ICAL Alumni Association recognized Gretta for “her achievements in the field of arbitration, including the advancement of research in the field through academic publications on different subjects – the latest dealing with the Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards and Judgements in New York.” Gretta is a dedicated alumna, participating as a student coach of the Vis International Commercial Arbitration moot court team, and later serving as a guest lecturer. She also speaks at ICAL seminars and conferences in the US and abroad.

The ICAL Alumni Association is a network of former members of the International Commercial Arbitration Law (“ICAL”) Masters Programme at Stockholm University. Each year, the Outstanding Alumnus Award is presented to one ICAL alumnus who is dedicated to professional and scholarly excellence that serves as inspiration to the ICAL community.

The event is hosted by Baker McKenzie, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) Y&I, the Young ArbitralWomen Practitioners, and the Arbitration Pledge. April 2019 – On Monday, April 15th, Gretta Walters will speak on a panel at “A Seminar by KCAB International: Demystifying the Arbitral Tribunal – Arbitrator Selection, Challenge, and Dynamics.” The panel discussion will address key issues, including how institutions and practitioners should select arbitrators, the grounds and processes for challenging arbitrators, and how to ensure good tribunal dynamics.

Gretta Walters to Participate in the 15th Annual ICDR Y&I Coffee House Debate

April 2019 – On Sunday, April 14th, Gretta Walters will participate in the 15th Annual ICDR Y&I Coffee House Debate at Palais Daun-Kinsky in Vienna, Austria. Gretta will join other panelists to discuss whether or not arbitrators should consider evidence that has been unlawfully obtained, as well as if arbitrators must be more inquisitive to ensure efficiency and effectiveness, reduce document production, limit submissions and lengthy hearing dates, impose shorter time frames, and promote settlement.

The event is sponsored by Chaffetz Lindsey and was co-founded by partner James Hosking. It takes place on the occasion of the 26th Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, which aims to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration for resolution of international business disputes through its application to a concrete problem of a client and to train law leaders of tomorrow in methods of alternative dispute resolution. Gretta will also be attending the 26th Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot as the co-coach of the New York University Law School team and as an arbitrator.

Chaffetz Lindsey Promotes Erin Valentine and Gretta Walters to Counsel

December 2018 – Chaffetz Lindsey is pleased to announce that Erin Valentine and Gretta Walters have been promoted from Associate to Counsel effective January 1, 2019.  Erin has also been named as the Head of Client Development, a new role at the firm where she will be responsible for developing client and intermediary relationships and creating new business opportunities.

She has represented individual and corporate clients as well as foreign sovereigns in U.S. courts and before arbitral tribunals.  Prior to joining Chaffetz Lindsey, Erin was an associate with the International Justice Network. Admitted to practice in New York, Erin earned her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was a James Wilson Scholar, Senior Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Law, and a recipient of the Blank Rome Alvin Ackerman Prize, Foreign Public Interest Scholarship and Pro Bono Service Recognition Award. She received her B.A. at the University of California, Irvine.

She has represented a diverse range of domestic and international clients in commercial and investment disputes in arbitration and state and federal courts. Prior to joining Chaffetz Lindsey, Gretta was an Associate at Mayer Brown, Legal Counsel at the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, and a Visiting Lecturer at Stockholm University.  Gretta is Secretary of the International Commercial Disputes Committee of the New York City Bar and on the Global Advisory Board of the AAA/ICDR young practitioners group. She is an adjunct professor at New York University Law School, where she also co-coaches the Foreign Direct Investment and Vis International Commercial Arbitration moot court teams.  Gretta regularly speaks at international arbitration-related conferences and co-authored the recently published Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards and Judgments in New York (Kluwer 2018).  She earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from American University’s Washington College of Law in 2010, where she was the Articles Editor for the American University Law Review. She received her LL.M. in International Commercial Arbitration Law at Stockholm University in 2012 and graduated with a B.A., cum laude, from University of Maryland in 2005.

Upcoming Reception to Honor Gretta Walters and Co-Authors of “40 Under 40 International Arbitration”
