October 2024—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters will take part in the 69^th True Global Ventures Conference: Applications AI in Future of Work, Sustainability, Deep Analytics on Wednesday, October 9^th.

Gretta will sit on the panel “AI in the Future of Work: Applications in Legal” with Jean-Rémi de Maistre (CEO and Co-founder of Jus Mundi), Kimo Gandall (Chief Executive Officer of Fortuna-Insights) and Nabil Barhumi (Liaison Estudio Rodriguez Larrain). September 2024—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters spoke at the 62^nd AIJA International Young Lawyers Congress on Wednesday, September 4^th. The annual congress took place in Madrid and gathered the international legal community to discuss and debate the topic: “Thinking Globally – The Role of International Lawyers in a World Searching for Answers.”

Gretta joined Sara Khalil (Schoenherr), Nathalie Weiss (Nägele Rechtsanwälte Gmbh), and Huib Schrama (Rutgers & Posch) on the panel “Global Problems: Associate, Employee, Staff 2.0 – AI and ChatGPT- From Merits To Dispute Resolution – Part II” to discuss the multifaceted challenges pervasive AI influence presents across industries, including law.

The session focused on dispute resolution, including AI and ChatGPT’s role in both the courts and arbitration. Key areas of discussion from the panel of experts encompassed the legal framework and jurisprudence on the use of AI and ChatGPT, the differences between the use of intelligent software in litigation and arbitration and the key benefits and pitfalls of AI, including falsified evidence, data protection and ethical considerations (such as the environmental impact it may have).

June 2024— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters will join the Practising Law Institute’s faculty for their “International Arbitration 2024” program taking place Tuesday, June 18^th . The program, designed for private practitioners, in-house counsel, and other professionals involved in the arbitration of international disputes, will take place online and in the PLI New York office.

Gretta will speak on the panel “Artificial Intelligence and International Arbitration” with Stan Putter (HBN), Miroslava Schierholz (ICDR) and Diora Ziyaeva (Dentons). The session will cover:

• Understanding how AI will impact international arbitration;
• Recognizing whether AI is open to abuse in the international arbitration arena;
• And appreciating whether AI will improve the international process.

June 2024— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters will join the London International Disputes Week event “Litigation Boutiques in London and New York: 15 Years On” on Thursday, June 6^th. The panel will consist of three elite boutique firms from London and New York as they discuss their appeal 15 years after launch.

Additional speakers include Justin Sher (Sher Tremonte), Ellen-Louise Moens (CANDEY) and Ashkhan Candey (CANDEY). Alex Cook KC (4 Stone Buildings) will moderate the discussion.

May 2024—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters spoke at the 38th AAA-ICDR – ICC – ICSID Joint Colloquium on International Arbitration on Tuesday, May 21^st in Washington, D.C.

Gretta participated in the panel “Enter the Shark Tank: Judging the Most Impactful Innovations in Arbitral Practice” which brought together arbitrators and practitioners to share their proposals for innovative tools to modernize international arbitration— particularly with respect to time and cost. The session used a Shark Tank-style setup with panelists presenting pitches and judges deciding on their top choice. Guled Yusuf (Allen & Overy) and Katie Gonzalez (Cleary Gottlieb) joined Gretta as the pitchers while Eduardo Zuleta (Arbitration Chambers), Marinn Carlson (MCarlson Arbitration PLLC) and Theresa Coetzee (Marriott International) acted as judges.

For over forty years, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration, and the International Centre for Dispute Resolution of the American Arbitration Association have co-sponsored the Joint Colloquium on International Arbitration. The Colloquium featured updates on trends and initiatives from the three institutions, interactive sessions on issues at the forefront of commercial and investment arbitration, and an opportunity to network with practitioners and arbitrators from around the world. May 2024—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters is set to speak in Washington, D.C. at the 2024 American Bar Association International Law Section Annual Conference on Friday, May 10^th.

Gretta will join Luis M. Martinez (Vice President, International Centre for Dispute Resolution, American Arbitration Association) and Julia E. Sullivan (Law Office of Julia Sullivan) for the panel “The Use and Misuse of Artificial Intelligence in Dispute Resolution”.

The panel will delve into the profound impact of AI on dispute resolution, examining how this transformative technology is reshaping traditional processes. By exploring AI’s potential benefits, risks, and ethical considerations, attendees will gain valuable insights into navigating the evolving landscape of dispute resolution.

Gretta joined Annie Lespérance, FCIArb (Head of Americas, Jus Mundi) and Luis M. Martinez, Esq. (Vice President, International Centre for Dispute Resolution) for the discussion.

March 2024— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Gretta Walters will speak at the 19th Annual ICDR Y&I Coffee House Debate in Vienna, Austria on Sunday, March 24^th. Gretta and accompanying panelists Angela Bergman Evans (Mannheimer Swartling), José Antonio Casas Chavana (Galicia Abogados), Emily Brait (Baker McKenzie), Marc Krestin (Fieldfisher) and Pilar Álvarez (GBS Disputes) will debate the following propositions: i) Parties should not be allowed to add to or amend their claims after the first procedural order; and ii) Parties can agree to deviate from any provision in the arbitral rules.

The discussion will be moderated by Mark Kantor (Independent Arbitrator) and Patricia Shaughnessy (Stockholm University).

March 2024—Gretta Walters gave the keynote address at the 17th Annual International Centre for Dispute Resolution® (ICDR) Practice Moot and Lecture Series that took place on Friday, February 16^th.

Gretta’s speech, “When Arbitrators’ and Institutions’ Authority Clash”, took a practical examination of one of the issues of this year’s Vis moot problem.

Each year, the program brings together preeminent arbitrators and practitioners in the field of international commercial arbitration with the aim of helping law students from around the world sharpen their advocacy skills in anticipation of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot competitions held in Vienna and Hong Kong.
