Matilde Flores to Speak on ICDR Y&I International Construction Arbitration Series

December 2023—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Matilde Flores will join a panel for the ICDR Y&I 2023 International Construction Arbitration series “International Construction Arbitration: Core Concepts for Arbitration Practitioners” taking place Wednesday, December 13th. Construction experts from around the world will discuss the core concepts young arbitration practitioners should understand when tasked with overseeing complex construction disputes.

Matilde will join Meera Wagman (Secretariat) and Emily Elliott (White & Case) for a conversation on ”The Nuts and Bolts of Delay Analysis.”  Giorgio A. Sassine (Musick, Peeler & Garrett) will moderate the discussion. The webinar will focus on introducing audience members to the more granular issues associated with schedule and delay analysis. Panelist will discuss, among other things, the practice of project scheduling, the methods delay experts implement to measure project delays, and how those methods factor into delay claims in connection with construction arbitrations.

October 2023—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Matilde Flores will speak on a panel to discuss “The Current Landscape of Arbitration in Latin America” (“Panorama Actual Del Arbitraje En América Latina”) on Wednesday, October 11th at 10am EST.

Matilde will be joined by Juan Felipe Merizalde, Sebastián Briceño, María Inés Corrá, Isabela Lacreta, Adrián Magallanes, Mayte Sánchez, Franceso Campora and Angélica Perdomo for the discussion.

Matilde Flores and Silvia Marroquin to Speak at 3rd NYU Sciences Po Intergenerational Arbitration Symposium

March 2023— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Matilde Flores and Silvia Marroquin will speak at the 3rd NYU Sciences Po Intergenerational Arbitration Symposium: “Hot Topics in International Arbitration” on Friday, March 24th. The event offers an opportunity to confront the visions of young professionals at the beginning of their careers with those of experienced practitioners on pressing issues in arbitration.

Silvia will moderate the 10:15am discussion “Open Questions in International Arbitration” between Jonathan Schaffer-Goddard (Holwell Shuster & Goldberg) and Paola Patarroyo (New York University), with Brian King (Independent Arbitrator) as debater.

Matilde will speak on how to prove corruption in international arbitration during the 11:20am session “Corruption Allegations in International Arbitration” opposite of Ezequiel Vetulli (Freshfields), with Daniel Schimmel (Foley Hoag) as debater.

The event will take place at NYU Law School (Lester Pollack Colloquim Room, 245 Sullivan St. New York).

Matilde Flores to Speak on “Damages, Country Risk and Interest Rates” Panel Monday, September 26th

September 2022— Chaffetz Lindsey’s Matilde Flores will join a discussion on damages, country risk and interest rates in international arbitration as part of the World Arbitration Update annual conference taking place on Monday, September 26th. The panel event held via Zoom from 1:30pm-3:00pm EDT will analyze how to conceptually evaluate country risk, different types of exposures, growing business-related risks and more.

The group moderated by Miguel Nakhle will consist of thought leaders in the space including Olga Ukhaneva, Carlos Pabon-Agudelo, Robert Patton and Miguel Lopez Forastier.

Matilde Flores to Speak at the 17th Annual ICDR Y&I Coffee House Debate

April 2022 — Chaffetz Lindsey associate Matilde Flores is set to speak at the 17th Annual ICDR Y&I Coffee House Debate. The virtual event will take place Thursday, April 7th at 9am EST. Matilde will be joined by colleagues around the globe including Katia Finkel, David Sandberg, Borja Pérez-Puente, Joanne Lau and Orlando Cabrera; moderated by Mark Kantor and Patricia Shaughnessy. Participants will debate whether arbitrators should rely more on practices and trade usages when deciding cases.

Matilde Flores to Discuss Whether or Not Security Costs Should be Mandated for Investor-State Arbitration

June 2020 – On Tuesday, June 16th, Matilde Flores will participate in a panel discussion titled, “True or False: Security for Costs Should be Mandated for Investor-State Arbitration?” The debate is part of JURIS Conferences’ 14th Annual Investment Treaty Arbitration Conference, a four-session web conference focused on systematic reform currently under consideration in various fora. Some topics of discussion include whether the revised investment chapter in the new NAFTA represents a paradigmatic shift for the U.S. government, proposed prescriptions on double-hatting and security-for-costs orders.
