Yasmine Lahlou to Speak on Arbitration and Anti-Suit Injunctions at IBA Milan 2025

October 2025 — Chaffetz Lindsey’s Yasmine Lahlou will serve as a panelist at the 5th IBA Litigation Committee Conference on Private International Law, to be held October 2–3, 2025 in Milan.

Her session, “Arbitration and Anti-Suit Injunctions After UniCredit — A New Frontier?”, will explore the evolving landscape of anti-suit and anti-enforcement injunctions in arbitration following UniCredit Bank GmbH v RusChemAlliance LLC. The panel will take a comparative approach across jurisdictions, including:

  • Developments in England, notably changes under the Arbitration Act 2025
  • Responses in the EU, such as “anti-anti-suit injunctions” and their operation under the Brussels Ia Regulation
  • Case law from Asia and the U.S., including nuances involving third-party affiliates and enforcement protections

Yasmine Lahlou Spoke on Dual Roles & Arbitrator Integrity at 24th CBAr Congresso Internacional de Arbitragem

September 2025 — Chaffetz Lindsey’s Yasmine Lahlou participated in a panel session on “Integrity and Arbitrators” at the 24th Congresso Internacional de Arbitragem, organized by the Brazilian Committee of Arbitration (CBAr).

Yasmine was a featured speaker on Thursday, September 18th, during a discussion that explored critical questions surrounding conflicts of interest, disclosure duties, and the evolving expectations placed on arbitrators.

She presented on “Arbitrators and Dual Roles: Are ‘double hatting’ or ‘revolving door’ practices a legally adequate cause for distrust in arbitrators’ conduct?”—a timely topic addressing concerns about arbitrators who serve in multiple roles across proceedings.

The panel was moderated by José Roberto de Castro Neves and included:

Aníbal Sabater to Speak on “The Arbitrator as Case Manager” at ICC Latin American Group Meeting in Buenos Aires

Silvia Marroquín Presents on Arbitration Agreement Fundamentals at Latin American Virtual Event

June 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Silvia Marroquín delivered a featured presentation on “Arbitration Agreement: Separability and Kompetenz-Kompetenz” during a virtual program on Wednesday, June 18th. The event brought together practitioners and students from across Latin America for a focused discussion on foundational principles of international arbitration.

Silvia’s presentation explored the doctrines of separability and Kompetenz-Kompetenz preserve arbitral autonomy and ensure that tribunals—not courts—can decide on their own jurisdiction in the face of challenges to the arbitration agreement. These concepts are central to understanding how arbitration remains a fair and efficient mechanism for resolving complex disputes.

The session is part of a virtual course on International Commercial Arbitration hosted by Litigando Derecho, an association dedicated to providing education and training on litigation and arbitration.

Caline Mouawad to Speak at ICC Coffee Hour on Corruption “Red Flags” in Arbitration

June 2025– Chaffetz Lindsey’s Caline Mouawad will be featured as a key speaker at the upcoming ICC-hosted “Coffee Hour” in New York City on Tuesday, June 17th.

The event, “Red Flags or Other Indicators of Corruption in International Arbitration,” is the third session in the ICC Commission on Arbitration & ADR’s series, focused on the recently published guidance from the ICC Task Force on corruption in arbitration.

Caline, former Vice-Chair of the ICC Steering Committee on Corruption, will join Lucinda Low, lead author of the ICC red flags document, for an interactive roundtable discussion. Together, they’ll explore:

  • Identifying early warning signs of corruption in arbitration
  • How arbitrators and counsel should respond when corruption may be present
  • The impact of red flags on proceedings and award enforcement

Alan Lipkin to Speak at Brazilian American Symposium for Corporate and Insolvency Law

May 2025—Chaffetz Lindsey’s Alan Lipkin will join the panel “Bankruptcy and Equalization of the Debtor’s and Creditors’ Interests: What Are the Checks and Balances in the Bankruptcy Systems of the US and Brazil?” for Fordham Law School’s event “Brazilian American Symposium for Corporate and Insolvency Law” taking place May 28th-May 29th in New York City.

Alan will join Justice João Otávio de Noronha and University of São Paulo’s Professor Oreste Laspro for the discussion.

The event aims to create a dialogue between Brazilian and American lawyers, professors, and judges, promoting the exchange of experiences and strengthening transnational collaboration between academies and judiciaries in both countries, with emphasis on changes to Brazilian Law brought by law 14.112/2020 on Transnational Insolvency and Chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy code.

Silvia will join the panel “Résoudre Autrement : La Montée en Puissance de la Médiation dans les Litiges d’Assurance & Réassurance” (“Resolving Things Differently: the Rise of Mediation in Insurance & Reinsurance Disputes”) along with Anne Pélissier (Secretary General of the International Insurance Law Association), Frédérique De La Chapelle Arnaud (Partner and Head of Insurance Europe at Dentons), and Arnaud Chneiweiss (Insurance Mediator). Eric Evian (President of ARIAS France) will mediate the discussion.
