November 2018 – Fordham Law School hosted a meeting of its Small to Midsize Law Firm Leaders Dean’s Advisory Council on November 12th. Chaffetz Lindsey Partner Cia Moss and Wollmuth Maher & Deutsch Partner Bill Dahill were introduced as co-chairs of the Council. The group, composed of alumni in leadership roles at small to midsize law firms, discusses current issues related to Fordham Law School, and ways to engage Law School alumni at small to midsize firms.

Chaffetz Lindsey’s International Arbitration Team Recognized by Legal 500 Latin America 2019

September 2018 – Legal 500 Latin America has released the 2019 edition, and Chaffetz Lindsey’s International Arbitration practice continues to be top-ranked in the region. According to the ranking summary, one client stated “‘outstanding’ dispute resolution boutique firm Chaffetz Lindsey LLP ‘provides the advantages of a boutique firm in which partners and senior lawyers are very knowledgeable and well versed in the details of specific matters – but is simultaneously readily available and has very short response times in respect of a broad variety of matters, as a full-service law firm would be’.”

Chambers Latin America Recognizes Chaffetz Lindsey’s Top-Tier International Arbitration Team

August 2018 – Chambers Latin America has released their 2019 edition, and Chaffetz Lindsey’s International Arbitration practice continues to be top-ranked in the region. According to the Chambers Latin America ranking summary, one client said, “I am extraordinarily pleased with the team’s performance. The level of detail in the preparation for the hearing and the performance itself were both excellent.”

Partners David Lindsey, James Hosking, Aníbal Sabater and Yasmine Lahlou were highlighted as notable practitioners.

Upcoming Reception to Honor Gretta Walters and Co-Authors of “40 Under 40 International Arbitration”

June 2018 – Chaffetz Lindsey is excited to sponsor an upcoming book launch at NYIAC to honor Associate Gretta Walters and her co-authors of 40 Under 40 International Arbitration, Carlos González-Bueno ed. (2018, Dykinson).  The book is authored by forty young international arbitration practitioners from across the globe and covers the lifecycle of an arbitration from the arbitration clause to enforcement of arbitral awards.  Gretta’s chapter addresses dispositive motions in arbitral proceedings and addresses the shift in debate from can they be used to when they should be used.

Legal 500 USA 2018 Again Recognizes Chaffetz Lindsey’s International Arbitration and Insurance Practices

June 2018 – Chaffetz Lindsey has again been ranked in Legal 500 USA’s annual guide to the top teams in International Arbitration and Insurance for 2018.

Our firm’s Insurance and Reinsurance practice was ranked Tier 2 in the Insurance: Advice to Insurers category with clients describing our “efficient” team as a “top practice in insurance.”  Counsel Andrew Poplinger was recognized for the first time as one of five Next Generation Lawyers for Advice to Insurers across the USA.  Partners Peter Chaffetz and Steve Schwartz were again two of the eight lawyers lauded as Leading Lawyers for Advice to Insurers: Reinsurance.  Peter and Steve are also listed in Legal 500’s Hall of Fame for having been recognized as elite leading lawyers for six consecutive years or more.

Peter Chaffetz and Chaffetz Lindsey’s Insurance/Reinsurance team top-ranked in Who’s Who Legal

April 2018 – Peter Chaffetz has been named the number 1 Thought Leader in the USA in the 16th edition of Who’s Who Legal: Reinsurance and Insurance 2018.  The Thought Leader ranking is based on the highest number of nominations from peers, corporate counsel and other market sources during Who’s Who’s research.  Those surveyed recognized Peter as an “immensely smart and capable lawyer,” well regarded for his “sound judgement.”  The editorial underscored that Peter is “particularly noted for his handling of issues arising from fraud.”  Peter is also noted as a leading individual in Who’s Who’s Litigation and Arbitration listings.

October 2017 – Chambers and Legal 500 have recently released their annual Latin America rankings tables, and Chaffetz Lindsey’s International Arbitration team continues to be recognized as a top-tier firms for its work across the region.

Categorized by Chambers Latin America as a “well-regarded dispute resolution boutique with a compact but highly rated bench,” Chaffetz Lindsey’s lawyers were acknowledged by clients for their focus, noting: “The level of their commitment is amazing – they work as if yours is the only case they have. We receive a very high quality of service from the team.”

Several of the firm’s international arbitration team members were ranked individually:

GAR Shortlists ICANN Ruling for Most Important Decision of 2017 Award

March 2017 – Global Arbitration Review has published the shortlists for awards ahead of this year’s ceremony in Milan.  One of the nominations for Most Important Reported or Published Decision this year involves Chaffetz Lindsey partner Aníbal Sabater, who sat on an ICANN panel that upheld the Gulf Cooperation Council’s challenge to the name of a planned internet domain aimed at the international Persian community despite opposition from Arab states (January 2017).  To be considered for the award, the decision must  important in jurisprudential terms, for its impact on the parties or geopolitics, for the development of a particular jurisdiction, or for the practice or reputation of arbitration in general.

Sitting as an independent review panel for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) – a California based organization for the governance of the internet – Lucy Reed (chair), Anibal Sabater and Albert Jan van den Berg ruled against the registration of the internet domain name “.persiangulf”, after the body of sea that separates the Arabian peninsula from Iran.
