October 2021 — The 2021 UIA Union Internationale des Avocats Congress is currently taking place in Madrid through Saturday in a hybrid format of in-person and virtual attendance.  Join Chaffetz Lindsey Partner Aníbal Sabater, who is President of “The Commission on The Future of the Lawyer,” as he co-moderates a panel on the “Impact of the Pandemic on the Management of Law Firms and the Practice of Law” this Saturday, October 30th, from 5pm to 7pm CEST (Madrid) with Commission’s Vice-President Nadia Darwazeh (Clyde & Co).

Lidia Rezende Moderates #YoungITATalks: “Arbitration & Insolvency: When Theory Meets Practice”

October 2021 – On Friday, October 22, Young ITA will host a webinar titled, “#YoungITATalks: Arbitration & Insolvency: When Theory Meets Practice” as part of the São Paulo Arbitration Week.  Young ITA’s regional leaders for Brazil and North America will lead a discussion on the use of arbitration in the context of bankruptcies, corporate restructurings, and other scenarios related to corporate insolvency and financial distress. In a roundtable format, we will discuss practical issues that arise at the intersection of insolvency and arbitration, from both the Brazilian and the U.S. law perspectives, as well as recent developments in the area (including the new IBA Toolkit on Insolvency and Arbitration and the new Brazilian Bankruptcy Act).

ENERAP Launches NY Chapter with Oct 19th Webinar on Global Energy Market and Regulatory Impact on NY Practitioners

October 2021 — Energy Related Arbitration Practitioners (ENERAP) is a worldwide forum that aims to promote the development of arbitration through the study of the characteristics, complexities and challenges involved in commercial and investment arbitration proceedings related to the energy sector.  Chaffetz Lindsey attorneys Gretta Walters and Silvia Marroquin are founding members of the newly launched NY Chapter, and Aníbal Sabater serves as an advisor to the organization.

2021 NYIAC Annual Grand Central Forum Features James Hosking as Speaker

September 2021 – The New York International Arbitration Center will be hosting its Annual Grand Central Forum on Monday, October 4th from 12:30pm to 2pm EST.  Before an international arbitration tribunal is confirmed, counsel has a choice between seeking provisional measures from an emergency arbitrator or a judge.  What strategic considerations should guide counsel’s analysis in choosing the most appropriate route?  Are the same provisional measures available from an emergency arbitrator and a judge?  Under what standard?  How expedited is the process?  How enforceable is the order granting provisional relief?  Grand Central Forum will explore these topics with prominent experts:  a judge and attorneys serving both as counsel and arbitrators.
