2021 NYIAC Annual Grand Central Forum Features James Hosking as Speaker

September 2021 – The New York International Arbitration Center will be hosting its Annual Grand Central Forum on Monday, October 4th from 12:30pm to 2pm EST.  Before an international arbitration tribunal is confirmed, counsel has a choice between seeking provisional measures from an emergency arbitrator or a judge.  What strategic considerations should guide counsel’s analysis in choosing the most appropriate route?  Are the same provisional measures available from an emergency arbitrator and a judge?  Under what standard?  How expedited is the process?  How enforceable is the order granting provisional relief?  Grand Central Forum will explore these topics with prominent experts:  a judge and attorneys serving both as counsel and arbitrators.

Gretta Walters to Speak at the 16th ICC New York Conference

September 2021 – On Wednesday, September 22nd, Gretta Walters will participate in a panel discussion titled “2020-21 North American Recap: What You Need to Know” at the 16th ICC New York Conference. Gretta will join Rahim Moloo, Charlene Sun and Noah Rubins to explore developments in North America that occurred during the past year and offer comparative perspectives on these developments that may affect proceedings in the region and elsewhere.

Aníbal Sabater to Speak About International Construction Arbitrations at ICDR Y&I

September 2021 – On Tuesday, September 14th, Aníbal Sabater will participate in a panel discussion titled, “International Construction Arbitration: Core Concepts for Arbitration Practitioners – Webinar 3: Changes/Variations” hosted by ICDR Y&I. Anibal will join Fatima Balfaqeeh, Shona Frame, Rouven Bodenheimer and Santiago Peña to discuss key issues involving change orders and variation claims in construction disputes, including how they arise and the consequences of those changes. The panelists will also address related issues such as notices and value engineering.

James will argue for the motion: “Challenges of Arbitrators Have Been on the Rise, Often for Tactical Reasons, and They Should Be Discouraged.” James will square-off against the formidable Melanie van Leeuwen of Derains Gharavi (Paris), in a debate moderated by Prof. Chiara Giorgetti of University of Richmond School of Law (Washington D.C.).  The (virtual) audience will get to determine who won the motion so be sure to register here.
