January 2010 – Chaffetz Lindsey partner James Hosking has co-authored the first published commentary on the International Arbitration Rules promulgated by the American Arbitration Association’s International Centre for Dispute Resolution. The commentary, co-authored with arbitration specialists Martin Gusy and Franz Schwarz, appears as a chapter in the Practitioner’s Handbook on International Commercial Arbitration (2nd ed., ed. Frank-Bernd Weigand, OUP, 2010).
Despite the fact that more than 600 arbitrations are administered under the ICDR International Arbitration Rules every year, no comprehensive commentary on these important rules had been published. The chapter provides an article-by-article analysis of the rules, as well as outlining their historical development and practical application. It gives arbitrators, arbitration practitioners and commercial parties a first port of call when considering ICDR arbitration.
James has frequently been involved in arbitrations under the ICDR Rules. He was also previously the co-chair of the ICDR young practitioners association and a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Advisory Board. In 2007, he was presented with a Distinguished Service Award by the American Arbitration Association for leadership within the ICDR.
